It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
